Amap, also known as Gaode Map, provides multilingual services for international visitors. Search your hotel and first station before the trip, and compare the full address against the booking. Save the Chinese name even if you normally browse in English.

  • Save the exact branch, entrance or terminal, not only a city-level map pin.
  • Keep address screenshots separate from the app so you can show them offline.
  • For a pickup, compare the designated meeting point with the point on your map.

Railway 12306 and its English website provide train-booking services. You do not need a different app for every leg: keep confirmed orders and their original booking channel together.

Translation: prepare for a conversation, not just a menu

Use a camera and text translator you can operate confidently. Where the app supports offline Chinese packs, download them and test a short phrase with connectivity disabled. Offline functions differ, so test the exact feature you intend to use.

Save a small set of destination and assistance phrases. For allergies, medical needs or a complex agreement, do not treat a machine translation as confirmation that the other person has understood. Ask for qualified or local assistance when accuracy matters.

Open each important app once, check its language setting and sign-in status, and find the task you will need on arrival. Then turn off connectivity briefly: can you still show your hotel address, booking reference and emergency information?
